While Geocaching, I came across a U.S. Treasury Liberty Bell Replica. In the 1950s, to promote savings bonds, the United States Department of Treasury sent a Liberty Bell replica to each state. You can find them at States Capitals, at the State House, Museums, and colleges. You can go online (link below) and see where they are currently located with their serial numbers. There is even one in France where the replica bells were cast. There were also 100 additional locations that they sent. Here is the LINKArizona has two replica bells. The first one is at the Arizona State Capitol’s courtyard. 1700 W Washington Street, Phoenix, ArizonaThe second bell is the Phil Tovrea Stockyard Liberty Bell located at 5013 E Washington Street Suite 100, Phoenix, Arizona (This is the one I saw, see picture below)According to this web page…The Tovrea’s were a large cattle company in Phoenix. Phil Trovrea was on a business trip to France and met the bellmaker Paccard. They became friends, and Phil was the first private citizen to own a Liberty Bell replica. In 2004 a company restored the exchange building and found the Bell just lying in the field. They were able to fix it up and put it on display. Here is a link to the full story HEREThis is why I love Geocaching. If there is an interesting bit of history, a neat hidden place, or even a work of art or ghost town, there is probably a Geocache nearby to tell you all about it. Photo credit Grady Butler
