Fridays With Frank: Pinal County Sheriff Tells it Like it Is

I'm a big fan of YouTube sensation, Fridays with Frank. If you haven't seen it, the channel follows Deputy Frank Sloup of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office as he stops drivers for a variety of traffic violations.

During the stop, failure to use a turn signal or an expired license plate tag may begin the stop, but that often leads to more. Frank's snarky comments and rapier wit often expose everything from a failure to use a seatbelt, to a suspended license - and much more.

10 Common Traffic Violations You Might Not Know About in Arizona - or - Ways You Could Become a "Guest Star" on Fridays with Frank

Here are 10 Common Traffic Violations that could you in hot water if you're pulled over by Deputy Frank or any other member of law enforcement in Arizona:

  1. Making Illegal Turns: You're turning right on a red light, but it's clearly marked "No Right Turn on Red"? You've made a U-turn where you're not allowed? If Frank sees you, he's going to stop you so you for a conversation. And maybe a ticket.
  2. Red-Light RunningIf Frank or any of his colleagues see you running a red light, they'll remind you why this is a bad idea. Oh, and they'll refer you for some formal schooling. With this violation, you'll be required to attend Traffic Survival School for each conviction.
  3. Aggressive DrivingIt's time to learn to practice Zen and the Art of Driving. Frank is gonna ask you to take some deep breaths if you're driving aggressively. You'll also be stopped if you're doing anything that could be an immediate hazard to another person or vehicle. You'll be in for a conversation with Frank that you won't soon forget.
  4. Speeding You already know you're not allowed to speed. If this is a surprise to you, Frank will set you straight.
  5. Failure to Stop at an AccidentThis one could be big. If you're involved in an accident, Arizona law requires you to stop and provide aid and information. If you don't, you could be convicted of a serious crime and you're license could be revoked for up to 10 years.
  6. Driving Without a Seatbelt:  While this is a secondary offense in Arizona, if you've been pulled over and Frank sees your seatbelt is gathering dust near your elbow, he might write you a bonus ticket as a reminder.
  7. Driving without Insurance: One of the first questions Frank and his team will ask you during a traffic stop is to show him your proof of insurance. Carrying insurance on your vehicle is mandatory in Arizona. If you're not, this could add some extra, "value" to the cost of your ticket.
  8. Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License: If Deputy Frank discovers your license isn't valid during a traffic stop, no matter what your reason, your vehicle could be impounded for up to 30 days. If he's in a good mood, he'll give you a chance to find someone who'll come pick it up for you, but I hope your friend isn't too busy, because he won't wait forever.
  9. Failure to Appear or Pay Fine for Traffic Citation: Oops! You forgot to pay the fine on that last ticket you had—or you didn't show up for court? You're not having a good day! Frank might impact your driving privileges even more. Your privileges could be revoked for much longer than you imagined.
  10. Using an Altered or Fictitious License: Not only is your license suspended, but you tried to cover it up with a fake or altered license. Frank is not amused. You could be in for a suspended license, possible fines, or even jail time.
