Why Are Gas Prices Jumping So Fast in Arizona?

The other day, I filled my tank and was shocked by the price increase. Last month, it cost me about $60 to fill up. Earlier this week, it was closer to $80.

If you’ve filled up lately, you already know the pain. The cost is escalating all over the state.  Prices in Phoenix jumped from $4.38 to $4.63 in a single weekend, according to AAA. Statewide, the average price per gallon is around $4.33, up from $3.14 just a month ago.

The new war with Iran has already pushed crude oil prices over $100 per barrel. Now, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are creating even more pain for oil supplies across the U.S.

Bringing Prices Back Down

In a recent interview, Governor Hobbs told KTAR that she’s in talks with federal partners to look into ways to help lower gasoline prices as the conflict continues.

Since Arizona depends on California refineries, our state is especially vulnerable when supply dwindles and prices rise. Hobbs said her office is keeping a close eye on supply chain risks.

The sudden rise in fuel prices has added even more stress to Arizona families who are already drowning from the jump in the price of everything.

Hobbs is currently trying to give Arizona families some breathing room on the bigger cost‑of‑living concerns, keeping an eye on high fuel prices that are creating shock waves through everything from groceries to goods and services.
