Arizona Schools Want To Sever Parents From Their Students
Growing up, I was a bit of a troublemaker in school. Not that I wasn't a model student (I was), but I tended to tune out lessons in favor of reading a book under my desk.
These days, kids are the same, but instead of their books, they're two hours deep in a doomscroll through TikTok, Instagram, or whatever else. Arizona's finally putting their foot down to stop it.
No Phones in Schools
Over the past few years, teachers have begun noticing differences in how kids use their phone over a school day. They're no longer just a method of calling home if you need, they're distraction machines, literally. Aside from that, students have begun using them to share drugs and alcohol, texting others to "meet in the bathroom" so they can share vapes, joints, or fifths.
To combat this, Arizona has just passed House Bill 2484, which aims to end this epidemic once and for all. This bill effectively bans phones in any capacity while in school hours, aside from a few exceptions such as educational purposes or emergencies.

Parents are Split
On one hand, this is a massive step forward for raising literacy and education among the youth. On the other, this is a massive change for everyone, and could lead to issues down the road.
Some parents are concerned that the lack of phones will hinder communication with their students, but to reiterate, there is an exemption specifically for that purpose. On the other hand, many have praised it, claiming it will force their children to focus and take home the information that they've learned.
