Arizona Native NFL Player Honored
As the big game wrapped up on Sunday night and the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their third championship in five years, one player was understandably disappointed.
San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Brock Purdy has had to fight his way through his football career, and after being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft was just a few plays away from winning the biggest game of his life.
Purdy, a Gilbert native, may not be coming home with a ring but he gained something better: the love of his community.
When I Was a Young Boy
Purdy began his football journey as a young boy, and by the time he was a sophomore at Perry High School, he had secured the starting Quarterback position.
He would go on to win back-to-back state championships with his team before making his way to Iowa State and eventually becoming Mr. Irrelevant (the nickname given to the last pick of the NFL Draft).
Never Forget Where You Came From
As Purdy prepared for the biggest night of his life, his Alma Mater was preparing a surprise for him.
On the Friday before the championship game, Perry High School unveiled the new name for the street their school is located on. Initially called PerryPuma Drive, the road is now officially Brock Purdy Way, honoring one of their most successful graduates.
Despite not winning a championship, Brock Purdy showed himself a capable athlete and will likely be back to bring even more pride to Arizona and Perry High School.
