Arizona is noted by many as a dry, desert wasteland. That isn't true! Only parts of Arizona are a dry, desert wasteland. 1.) The Sonoran Desert
The Sonoran Desert is likely the single most recognized landscape in Arizona. This desert is one of a kind. It is home to a unique species of endangered cactus, the Souargo.
The Sonoran Desert has more biodiversity than any other desert in North America. On top of its signature cacti, the Sonoran Desert is home to palo verde, elephent tree's, and a variety of brush and grass.
2.) Sky Island Mountains
The Sky Island mountain range in southern Arizona offers a unique variety of plants and animals. You can see everything from jaguars to coyotes and rare frog breeds. This mountain range is one of a kind, and while still technically in the desert, it has trees such as oak and pine.
According to the National Parks Service, this habitat is at the crossroads between four major ecosystems: the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Madre, the Sonoran Desert, and the Chihuahuan Desert. This means that the sky island mountain region has one of the most diverse and important ecosystems on the continent.

3.) Alpine Tundra in Flagstaff
The Coconino National Forest in Northern Arizona is another diverse national park. This area has a variety of ecosystems, from deserts to ancient volcanic peaks and Alpine Tundras. The Apline Tundra's in Flagstaff, Arizona, offer a colder environment and a denser variety of foliage compared to its southern neighbors.
This biome has plants such as fir, spruce, and pine. The weather can range from 15-46 degrees in the winter to 47-78 degrees in the summer. Unlike its neighboring biomes, it very rarely gets above 85 degrees in the alpine tundra, making it one of a kind in the furnace known as Arizona.
These three very different landscapes provide a clear picture of Arizona. It isn't just a desert, it's a state full of unique plants and wildlife. Up north, you can find dense forests, while further down, there are deserts and habitats like no other. Arizona is one of the most unique and beautiful states, isn't it?
