Is Kratom Legal In Arizona?
In the summer of 2022, I fell in with a new group of friends. Every night, we'd meet at a Kava/Kratom Bar in Clearwater, Florida, and just hang for a few hours.
Kava and Kratom always interested me, I was never a fan, but the concept seemed alien to me. It was a restricted drink, but I couldn't for the life of me understand why.
What is Kratom?
Kratom is, effectively, a controlled opiate, technically. It's an herbal substance, typically drank, that produces opiate-like effects, as well as acting as a natural stimulant. The FDA does not have an approved use of the drug, but it has been known to help pain relief, making it a popular natural substitute to more potent pharmaceuticals.
The substance has found its way to every corner of the country, with Kava/Kratom bars becoming a staple of hippies, spiritualists, and those looking for an alternative way to unwind. But with such potent effects, is the substance actually legal?

Is Kratom Legal?
The easy answer is, yes! Across all 50 states, Kratom is a legal substance, of course, with a few laws behind it. The federal government did attempt to ban it back in 2016, but that was quickly overturned.
In 2019, Arizona passed the Kratom Consumer Protection Act, which helped keep the substance safe within state borders. Rules laid down included prohibiting sale to anyone under the age of 18, as well as banning Kratom containing 7-hydroxymitragynine in over 2% of the alkaloid content. So yes, Kratom is legal and widely accessible across the Grand Canyon State.
