It looks like the unseasonably warm weather is taking a break this weekend as a storm system rolls into Cochise County.

The system is expected to bring a mix of rain, breezy conditions, and a long-overdue touch of winter to the higher elevations. According to the National Weather Service, forecasts show temperatures staying in the 60s during the day, but overnight lows are expected to dip into the upper 20s and low 30s.

What is the Chance of Rain in Cochise County?

As of this writing, there's a modest chance for rain, around 10–20% depending on the day, but it will increase as the weekend progresses. We've been a little short on rain this winter, so any moisture is welcome. January typically averages about an inch of rainfall.

Is Snow in the Mix and Where Will it Fall?

If you live under 6,000 feet, it's very unlikely you'll see any snowfall as this system moves through the county.

Temperatures are simply too warm, even overnight. Higher elevations, especially above 6,000 feet in the Huachuca, Mule, and other county mountain ranges, could see light snow or flurries if temperatures drop enough during the coldest hours.

The main forecasts don’t necessarily call for snow at lower elevations, but the combination of clear nights and cold air means the mountains might get a dusting, which is normal for this time of year.
