Helping Customers Report Power Outages
Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative is rolling out a new system to keep customers informed during power outages.
It's after hours and the power is out. You reach for your phone, but it's almost dead. You quickly Google the power company's after-hours hotline, and dial, only to get a recorded message.
"Welcome to SSVEC. Press one to pay your bill. Press two to upgrade your service. Press three..."
You get the idea. Maybe you'll find the right extension before your phone also loses power. If you're lucky enough to get through, that is. With all of your neighbors calling right now, you might get a busy signal instead.
Keeping Customers Informed
Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative is making changes to keep its customers informed when the power goes out. SSVEC is adding text alerts to keep customers informed when power outages happen.
The new messaging system will benefit Cochise County power customers in several ways:
- Real-time Updates: SSVEC will push alerts to mobile devices to keep residents informed when power disruptions happen. No need to call SSVEC. They'll also send you a message when power has been restored.
- Safety and Convenience: Residents will be able to make informed decisions during power failures.
- Opt-In or Opt-Out of Alerts: SSVEC's customers may be automatically subscribed through the telephone number on record. If you'd like to subscribe, text SUBSCRIBE to (800) 422-3275. If you'd like to opt-out, text QUIT to the same number.
- Outage Dashboard: Residents can check the Outage Dashboard to view verified outages in their area. The dashboard provides initial steps to determine if the outage is only at your house, or if your neighbors have also lost power.
- Reporting Outages: You can't report outages through the text messaging system at this time. If an outage has not yet been verified, you'll still have to call 1-800-422-3275 to report it.

SSVEC's new system will help customers plan. If you've got family members who rely on electricity for medical reasons, or family home alone while you're out, having the right information at the right time will help help you take action.
