They drilled down further, analyzing the towns across 38 metrics. When the dust settled,  Scottsdale and Gilbert ranked among the top 5 most compassionate communities in the country. Honestly, it tracks. According to the study, Scottsdale ranked 3rd and Gilbert ranked 4th overall.

It's no surprise that Arizona residents are kind and generous, which is why these two cities weren't the only ones in our state to make the list.

Why Were These Cities Chosen?

WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 38 metrics that measure how communities show up for one another. Those metrics fall into three big buckets:

  • Caring for the Community, they looked at the number of volunteer hours, charitable giving, and neighborly acts
  • Caring for the Vulnerable analyzed adoption rates, child poverty levels, and support for the homeless
  • Caring in the Workforce was determined by the number of residents working in helping professions like teaching, social work, and healthcare

Scottsdale scored especially high in caring for vulnerable populations. According to the study, they have strong adoption rates in the area and low child poverty. Gilbert excelled in community care, ranking second nationwide in that category.
