Sporting events are a staple of American culture. Whether you cheer for a team or not, memories are made with your family and friends at the ballpark, football stadium, or basketball arena.

Sports give us the opportunity to cheer for those representing our state, spend time with the people we love, and spend an afternoon out of the house.

Unfortunately, Arizona fans have it worse than most of the U.S.

Average Ticket Prices Across the U.S.

Ticket prices vary from state to state, and can be manipulated by a number of factors. However, by looking at all the major sports teams in a state and calculating an average between them, we can get a realistic idea of the cost of sports by state.

Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio all fall at the bottom end of the spectrum, with an average price in the low $100 range. On the opposite end is Massachusetts, New York, and Florida, capping off in the $190-$250 range.

You may notice that the ticket prices seem to follow cost of living in the state, and that isn't an accident. Organizations in higher income states tend to price their tickets according to the resident's average income, which will bumps the price.

If you were hoping that Arizona would trend towards the bottom of the list, I've got bad news for you.

Sitting right below Florida in fourth place with an average ticket price of $178 is the great state of Arizona. This comes as a bit of a shock, due to the state being sandwiched between states with a much higher average income, but it likely has to do with the influential Phoenix Metro Area, which has become one of America's major economic centers.

Football prices are the highest among sports, with soccer at the very lowest point. Regardless of the sport you plan on seeing, you'll have to shell out an arm and a leg for a chance to go.
